Using the 3D Printer

If you do not know how to use a 3D printer, do not use the printers without asking for help! Message the #3dprinters Slack channel and someone can train you.

SSI uses Prusa i3 MK3S printers. The preferred slicing software is PrusaSlicer, which can be downloaded here.

Printer etiquette

  • If switching filament thread the loose end of the filament through the holes in the spool so that it doesn't become tangled
  • If a printer is having issues leave a note on the printer explaining the issue and alert the #3dprinters channel
  • Clean up any failed prints
  • Any hygroscopic filaments such as Nylon and TPU should be stored in the low-humidity PolyBox to keep them in good condition

3D Printer Troubleshooting Guide

  • Make sure to clean the bed with rubbing alcohol before each print to improve bed adhesion
  • Double check your slicer settings are set for the type of filament you are using
